Can I Get a Mortgage After an IVA?

2024-11-25 5 min read

An Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) stays on your credit file for 6 years, but that doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Specialist lenders consider applications from borrowers with satisfied IVAs, and a growing number will lend during an active IVA.

During an Active IVA

A small number of specialist lenders will consider mortgage applications during an active IVA. You'll need your IVA supervisor's written consent, a larger deposit (typically 20–25%), and evidence that all IVA payments are up to date.

After IVA Completion

Once your IVA is completed and marked as satisfied, more lender options become available. The longer since completion, the more competitive the rates you can access. After 3 years, many near-prime lenders will consider your application.
